ABOUT: 

Klosterenga Park, located in Oslo’s Gamle Oslo district, is a new public sculpture park featuring Klosterenga landscape lighting. It completes a vision by artist Bård Breivik that began in the 1990s. The park is one of the most ambitious public art initiatives in modern Norwegian history. It features new walking paths, benches, Klosterenga landscape lighting, and extensive planting. The park also brings Hovinbekken, a once-culverted stream, back to the surface. Flowing through channels, basins, and waterfalls, the stream interacts with sculptures, creating a serene atmosphere. This project integrates art, nature, and urban life, becoming a cultural landmark that enriches the city.

Zenisk’s approach for Klosterenga landscape lighting design combines functional and artistic elements, enhancing both safety and identity. The Klosterenga landscape lighting scheme includes two layers. The first focuses on functional lighting for paths and activity areas, ensuring safety in the evening. The second highlights sculptures and water features subtly and intuitively. Together, these layers create a welcoming atmosphere that encourages use at all hours. This makes the park attractive to residents, art enthusiasts, walkers, and cyclists. Lighting equipment is carefully positioned to avoid distracting from the art, ensuring a balance between illumination and shadow.
